Vitamin A is a fat-soluble nutrient that promotes normal vision, contributes to growth of bones, teeth and soft tissue, and it maintains the integrity of the skin. Beta carotene is the precursor to the active form of vitamin A.

Vitamin A deficiencies can result in chronic infections, hypothyroidism, protein malnutrition and liver disease. Life Extension® offers this Vitamin A test to measure beta carotene. This test evaluates the body’s ability to synthesize Vitamin A.

Instructions

An 8 to 12 hour fast is required for this blood test. However, drink plenty of water and take your medications as prescribed. Avoid foods and supplements containing carotene for 48 hours preceding blood draw.
